Thanks to Susanne Nielsen of the German Radio Show and Kulturspiegel for sharing this review of Jobsite’s ALICE — both in English and German:

Just wonderful! Jobsite brings Alice back to life!

Review by Susanne Nielsen

Many of us may have grown up listening to the fantastical tales set in the world of “Alice in Wonderland,” penned by mathematician Lewis Carroll, who made the little preacher’s daughter, Alice Little, his heroine. And the child in us rejoices in this wondrous play that the Jobsite troupe, directed by David Jenkins, brings to the intimate stage of the Straz’ Shimberg Playhouse in a wonderfully imaginative production – in the tradition of last year’s Shockheaded Peter performance! Bravo, bravo, wonderful, and to visit several times, because it is like a journey into another dimension, and that in 3-D!

Again this company in its production has conjured up a lot of fun for us from its literary template, with costumes and hand puppets! From all sorts of texts directly taken from Lewis Carroll’s “Alice”, with the famous Jabberwocky and also the Walrus poems, wonderfully recited by a gentleman dressed all in red and by two women doing acrobatics on gymnastics rings, kinetically underlining the cabaret-like hustle and bustle, with all sorts of hand crafted stick puppets, which involve the audience directly (if you want to, take the first row, definitely!), you can see the Shakespeare-seasoned actors’ delight in showing off  exaggerated facial expressions and over the top acting, especially in their interaction with their hand puppets and all kinds of movable stage accessories, that have us follow Alice into a deep hole in the ground following the rabbit and take a seat at the Mad Hatter’s tea party table. This is a Summer romp for all ages, but especially for those who want to be a kid again. Really!

Jobsitetheater.org, Alice runs through June 4, 2023

Einfach WUNDERBAR!

Wirklich!

Join in on the fun before we must close on June 4!
