Every detail, from the score, to the direction, the lighting, the costume, the choreography, the absolutely flawless sound technician work and stage management, even the smoothness of the mic stand sliding up and down – every detail was fine tuned and just absolutely gorgeous. And after a decade of witnessing this woman perform one new challenging role after another – I got the privilege of seeing her completely transform into this character in ways I’d never seen before. An absolute showcase of her vocal abilities, emotional range, and clear star power, commanding the stage for 90 minutes of just Colleen, the band, and the audience. No one knows everything, but I do predict tickets selling fast (the first week was completely sold out). Don’t miss it. – Kara Gold-Harris

If you have time before September 7, head to the Straz and see Penelope. A one woman show about the wife of Odysseus might not sound like your cup of tea, but it is a phenomenal musical of loss, longing, ingenuity and hope. The music and musicians are fabulous and the amount of expression you can see and hear sitting just feet from the actress in the Shimberg Theater is truly remarkable. … what an incredibly talented production! Colleen Cherry was outstanding—singing beautifully while carrying the entire story through her acting, humor and emotion. The musical arrangements were exceptional, with piano, two violins, cello and powerful percussion creating a gorgeous folk-pop sound. I especially loved how the performance began with the pianist and the musicians entering one at a time, then ended with each musician leaving individually—a beautiful reflection of Penelope’s journey through waiting, loneliness and ultimately discovering her own strength … Beautifully arranged, deeply moving and exceptionally performed. This performance was fantastic, as I knew it would be. Colleen embraces and embodies the role. I’m going to speak for my fellow guests, and say the audience was captivated.
