Love Jobsite? Get on Board!

Do you love live theater? Are you interested in helping Your Friendly Neighborhood Theater Company continue to grow and flourish? Do you have even just an hour or two a month to spare? Please consider joining our board of directors! In recent years we have grown from being an artist-governed board. We did that to help ensure our identity and build this company in the image we desired. We realized, however, that wasn’t going to be enough. The image I chose for this post is the group of folks who largely lifted Jobsite on their backs to get us where we are today — and I will always be thankful for each and every one of them! However we all began to understand that loving the company and having the means to get us to the next level in achieving our many goals was outside of our skill set, and in many cases even our desire. That’s fair, I want my artists focused on creating great art.

Jobsite’s board is now focused on those big picture things, so that our mighty ensemble can continue to develop this artistic home. The board meets for one hour bi-monthly, currently the second Monday evening of every other month from 6 to 7pm, to discuss business and ensure the health and stability of the organization. Alternate months, when the full board does not meet, are reserved for committee meetings to be held at mutually agreed upon times and places. We currently have committees for fundraising, audience development, and strategic planning. We are interested in developing committees for both education and marketing/PR in 2018. Simply put, the function of Jobsite’s board is development be that strengthening relationships in our community, attracting new faces to the theater and encouraging the converted to become season ticket holders, or planning and executing fundraising events and initiatives.

You do NOT need to be a banker or a lawyer or a CEO to hold a board seat with Jobsite. We do not require a specific financial commitment for you to join. We’re  looking for people who know our work (or who want to know it better), who believe in our mission, and want to help us not only grow but ensure we’re here for years to come. We’re specifically looking to enrich our current board with a wider array of diverse voices across every category. Young professionals are of particular interest.

My effectiveness as an artistic and administrative leader is in direct relation to the strength of the support network I have around me. We’re looking for a Few Good People who have passion, a bit of time, and the commitment to pitch in and lend a hand.

Thinking of where and how you might you fit in? I have some ideas: Do you love to plan a party or an event? Are you good at “making the ask” when you believe in something? Are you a member of a network or a part of the community that you think you can create a stronger bridge between? Are you a good listener or problem solver? Are you simply someone with a bit of time who’d like to help us execute an idea? If you said yes to any of those things, I would love to talk to you.

Write in through this post or call me at 813.476.7378 to learn more! The first full board meeting of 2018 is in Feb., and we’re hoping to fill at least 4 seats. If you’re reading this and are unfamiliar with the company, I would love to meet with you and then have you as my guest to The Tempest, opening on Jan. 19, to see if there might be a fit.

Best,

-dj
