  1. Even though I somehow did not win the free opening night tickets to Embedded. Which I will never understand, my bitterness at losing is overshadowed by the sheer joy of seeing a wonderful piece of theater.

Starting with the foundation of a strong script by Robbins, it is well acted and well directed. This is what theater is supposed to be, thought-provoking, discussion stimulating and above all entertaining. While those responsible for the war are pilloried, those serving in the conflict and their families are treated with nothing but respect by both the script and the production.

The serious and probably controversial subject matter is nicely leavened by humor of both the absurdist and dark variety.

Multimedia, which is often so gimmicky, is used wonderfully with sound, images and video blending in appropriately with the action on stage.

The ensemble is uniformly strong, so much so that I hate to single anyone out above the others, but Josh Goff was particularly good as Gondola & Hardchannel.

This is one of the rare shows deserving of a standing ovation, and I was happy to give it such. It is unfortunate there is no room for the show to extend with the advent of Blackbird as it is certainly worthy of an extended run. So quit watching America’s Got Talent, Tivo the Olympics, you know Phelps is gonna win anyways, and come out and see some real talent leaving it all on stage.

However, unless I missed it, there was one glaring oversight. The brilliant song “Let’s Have A War” by Fear, from the Repo Man soundtrack was not used. Unbelievable.

  2. David,

You missed it. It was used at the end of the first scene and before the first time you see the OSPs. It had the “get the eff out” VO over it. Maybe that’s why you didn’t notice it. You were too busy being charmed by my awesomeness. 🙂

  3. Only Davids are commenting? Oh well…

I say this every show and this time its hard to think of other words: I am so proud to be a part of this group.

I saw Embedded last night, and it was probably the best show I’ve seen ANYWHERE in the recent years (excluding Gorey Stories and The Serpent, selfishly).

I think David #1 said it best, but I’ll say it too. Get off your ass and see this show. It’s really a great piece of live theater. I can’t say enough about it.
