Review: Twelfth Night in Kulturspiegel

We’re thankful for the kind words from German radio’s Susanne Nielsen about our production of TWELFTH NIGHT! The original review in German is at the bottom, but since we assume most of our audience cannot read that, the English translation is first! 🙂

Joyful Start to 2024 with Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night,”

seen and heard by Susanne Nielsen

Directed and adapted by David M. Jenkins with original music by Jeremy Douglass

January 17 – February 11, 2024 at the Jaeb Theater, Straz Center, Tampa, Florida

“If music is the food of love, then, yes then? It’s time again for a Shakespeare comedy, because who can bring him to the stage as well as Jobsite Theater? In the Shakespeare tradition of the Jobsite Theater, which is well known, there is an increasingly wider audience, now also the very young students housed in the new dormitories not far from the Straz, Jobsite as a culturally integral part of the West Florida theater scene. We agree with praise such as “No one ‘rocks the Bard’ as hard, as daring or as relevant as Jobsite and his actors,” from BroadwayWorld. It’s fun, you already know that because we have known the actors like Giles Davies and many others from the stage for a long time and have seen them grow with each role.

This time Shakespeare’s cheerful, exuberant comedy and always accompanied by imaginative music (composed by Jobsite’s award-winning Jeremy Douglass), a hurricane causes a ship carrying twins to sink and the young Viola believes that her twin brother Sebastian has drowned. And she wants to survive alone and disguises herself to explore this new, mysterious new land.

This is how the play begins, in which all kinds of confusion and love are brought to all kinds of confusion and yet to a good end. Giles Davies plays the elegant Prince Orsino, Roxanne Fay the rogue, and a surprisingly similar pair of twins are Noa Friedman as Viola and Newt Rametta as Sebastian.

There is a lot of fun in a female embodiment of Malvolio, who has been deceived by love (Katherine Yacko, such a wonderful cross-gartered comedian!), and Jared Sellick as Sir Andrew Aguecheek, who dances through the stage full of surprises. Kathryn Huettel’s Fabian is also a delightful recast in the role. All the actors, including some familiar faces, from the Jobsite Theater’s first performance in 2015 are listed on the theater’s website.

Great fun that you can always enjoy seeing on the stage of the Jaebtheater in a few years! A good choice to start 2024!

Spassiger Auftakt mit Shakespeares Twelfth Night beim Jobsite Theater

Regie und Adaption David M. Jenkins mit Originalmusik von Jeremy Douglass

17. Januar – 11.
