The public proved to Jobsite once again this weekend that Jobsite SUPPORTERS are in fact who rock. Perhaps that shouldn’t have been a surprise – they took a Best of the Bay Award from Creative Loafing in 2005 for Most Impassioned Theater Fans.
With the financial loss Jobsite absorbed in mid-August due to the premature closing of Hurlyburly, Jobsite immediately shifted focus into making their one annual event – Jobsite Rocks – the best it could be. By the end of the weekend, donations came in for the event nearly in the amount $4,000 for the resident theater company of TBPAC. The weekend’s totals actually put them a few hundred dollars ahead of the loss they’d taken.
Jobsite is estimating overall attendance at 250 over the course of the evening. It began at 8pm with the 1st ever Jobby Awards (see below for the list of recipients) and continued on through 2am with music from DJ Scott Imrich, The Vodkanauts and Poetry N’ Lotion. Jobsite stalwarts Ami Sallee Corley and David Jenkins joined Poetry N’ Lotion at the end of their set to lend vocals to D’yer Maker and War Pigs, respectively.
If anyone wishes to contribute to Jobsite before the end of their fiscal year, donations can be made online at jobsitetheater.org or mailed to P.O. Box 7975, Tampa, FL, 33673-7975 through Sept. 30.
